Title

Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing a total expenditure of $65,000 to BBG Consulting, Inc. for building inspection services through September 30, 2018 (Director of Planning and Development)

Background:

Approval of this agenda item will authorize a total expenditure of $65,000 to BBG Consulting, Inc. for building inspection services through September 30, 2018.  BBG Consulting, Inc. was first contacted on April 11, 2018 regarding contract plumbing inspection services. They were originally contacted to assist with plumbing inspections while Interim Building Official, George Schonert, was out of the office due to training.

On Friday, April 13, 2018, two plumbing inspectors left the City; Herman Meyers resigned from his position and George Prino retired after many years of service. Due to a shortage of plumbing inspectors, inspection services offered by BBG Consulting, Inc. were necessary for managing the day-to-day operations of the Building Department. Since this was an emergency purchase, no other quotes were received.

This agenda item will approve past expenditures ($58,945.00) incurred for these services while the Building Department was short-staffed and cover any potential new services through the end of this fiscal year.  Approval of the City Council is required since the total expenditures have exceeded $50,000.  As the Building Department is almost fully-staffed, it doesn't anticipate using BBG Consulting, Inc. for any additional services but a small contingent amount is left to cover any unforeseen situations through the end of the fiscal year.

Funding has been identified in the Building Department personnel services due to vacancies throughout FY2018 to be reallocated to the professional services account.
