Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing a construction contract with AAA Asphalt Paving Inc. for the Vance Street Rehabilitation Project (CIP# ST1805) in an amount not to exceed $78,969.80 and authorizing the expenditure of an additional $7,897 for a construction work change directive budget for a total construction budget of $86,866.80 (Director of Budget & Project Management)
Background:
Approval of this resolution will authorize the award of a construction contract to AAA Asphalt Paving Inc. for construction of Vance Street Rehabilitation Project (CIP# ST1805) and authorize funds for a work change directive budget.
The purpose of this project is to perform road base repairs and asphalt resurfacing as part of the City’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. The approximate length of mill and overlay operations is 640 linear feet.
Sealed bids for the project were received on August 7, 2018 (Bid No. 18-034A). AAA Asphalt Paving Inc. submitted the second lowest bid in the amount of $78,969 and was determined to be the best value for the City. The engineering consultant’s recommendation of award and the bid tabulation are attached.
Staff requests approval of the award of the construction contract and the authorization of funds as follows:
1. Construction contract with AAA Asphalt Paving, Inc. in the amount of $78,969.80
2. Construction work change directive budget in the amount of $7,897 (10% of construction amount) allowing staff to approve minor field changes to expedite decisions and avoid possible construction delays and/or damage claims by the contractor.
