Consider and take action on an ordinance appointing Laticia Fuhr and Paul Ready as associate judges of the Municipal Court of Record in the City of League City for a two-year term beginning on January 1, 2019 and ending on December 31, 2020 and authorizing agreements with Laticia Fuhr and Paul Ready for various judicial services at a rate of $150 per hour (Assistant City Manager)
Staff recommends approval on first and final reading.
Background:
Approval of this agenda ordinance will appoint Laticia Fuhr ("Fuhr") and Paul Ready ("Ready") as associate judges for a two-year term beginning on January 1, 2019 and ending on December 31, 2020 and authorize agreements with Fuhr and Ready for various judicial services at a rate of $150 per hour.
The City currently has two municipal court judge positions: a presiding judge and an associate judge. In order to improve the efficiency of the court and prevent disruption to the court schedule due to illness, vacation plans and other unplanned events, City staff is recommending that the City Council appoint two additional associate judges, Fuhr and Ready, that will serve as back-up to the current judges.
CONTRACT ORIGINATION: The agreements will be drafted by the City Attorney's Office.
