Title

Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing the submittal of a grant application for the annual Emergency Management Performance Grant (Emergency Management Coordinator)

Background:

Approval of this item will authorize the City Manager to submit an application for the annual Emergency Management Performance Grant. The Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) is an annual grant that is funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and distributed through the Texas Division of Emergency Management to assist local governments with development, implementation, and maintenance of emergency management programs. Applicants are eligible for up to fifty percent of their annual budgeted program costs including salaries, equipment, training, and public education materials. Based on an FY19 operating budget of $208,500, the City could be eligible to receive $104,250; however, past experience with the program suggests the City could reasonably expect funding of $35,000. The FY19 budget anticipates revenue from the grant in the amount of $35,000.

The City of League City has received this grant annually for more than 17 years, and has continued to meet or exceed grant requirements in the areas of emergency planning, exercises, training, and public education.
