Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing a mutual aid law enforcement agreement with the County of Galveston and the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office (Chief of Police)
Background:
Approval of this item will authorize staff to enter into a mutual aid law enforcement agreement with Galveston County. This Interlocal Cooperation Agreement is between various municipalities whose jurisdiction is wholly or partially within Galveston County. This Agreement is being executed pursuant to Chapter 791 of the Government Code, commonly known as the Interlocal Cooperation Contract Act and Chapter 362 of the Local Government Code commonly known as the Mutual Aid Law Enforcement Services Act. The purpose of this chapter is to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of local governments by authorizing them to contract, to the greatest possible extent, with one another and with agencies of the state.
The purpose of this Mutual Aid Law Enforcement Agreement is to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the municipal police agencies in Galveston County by authorizing them to contract, to the greatest possible extent, with one another and to provide for compensation for resources.
This Agreement enables the League City Police Department to receive and provide assistance when needed for personnel, equipment, and the sharing of information.
There has been a long standing “Mutual Aid Law Enforcement Agreement” in place that was approved by the Governing bodies of the participating Cities and Agencies, but many of the Administrators from the participating Agencies have changed, and Galveston County would like to have them approved again.
