Title
Recognition of the Recreation Professional of the Year for the Texas Recreation & Park Society East Region (City Manager)

Background:
The East Region TRAPS Conference was held on January 22, 2019. The East Region consists of over 50 cities and counties from the greater Houston and East Texas region. Each year, the Region recognizes one individual for Recreation Professional of the Year that is responsible for exemplary advancement of the recreation and parks profession in his or her locale. During the awards ceremony, Kenny Walsh from League City was recognized as the TRAPS East Region 2018 Recreation Professional of the Year.

Kenny received his bachelor's degree from the University of Houston and has been with League City for 5 years. During this time Kenny has consistently demonstrated outstanding leadership in providing exemplary advancement of recreation programs to meet our community needs. He continues to expand programming to meet the special needs demographic, to implement additional private/public partnership opportunities, and to provide innovative recreational programs. He serves as Regional Chair of the TRAPS East Region Golf Tournament Committee.

Over the course of 2018, Kenny brought Clear Lakes Girls Lacrosse Association and Texas Boys Bay Area Lacrosse to League City facilities and partnered with NASA to implement "Bike to Work Day". He also hosted 8U TAAF Boys Basketball Regional Tournament, Novice Fencing Tournament, and Sanctioned USAPA Regional Pickleball Tournament.

Kenny and his staff, along with other citizens and their families, were also instrumental in operating a 24/7 shelter to assist League City residents during Hurricane Harvey. The shelter assisted more than 500 fellow citizens who found themselves without a place to stay.

The City of League City is proud to congratulate Kenny Walsh on winning the TRAPS East Region 2018 Recreation Professional of the Year Award.
