Title
Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing the submittal a grant application to the Office of the Governor for reimbursement of police officer regular time and overtime costs associated with the Santa Fe school shooting which occurred on May 18, 2018 (Chief of Police)

Background:
On the morning of May 18, 2018, an active shooter was reported at Santa Fe High School which resulted in the deaths of ten people and another thirteen being wounded. The suspected shooter was taken into custody by responding officers. This shooting was the second-deadliest school shooting in the United States in 2018, and one of the deadliest school shootings in Texas history. On that day, there were twenty-six (26) officers that responded to assist from different assignments throughout the League City Police Department. Then from May 20, 2018 until June 1, 2018, the League City Police Department assisted the Clear Creek Independent School District with providing extra staffing of officers at many of their schools across the District.

Within weeks after the active shooter event at Santa Fe High School, the Governor’s Office called to advise that the State of Texas would provide funding to help cover employee costs for the incident in Santa Fe as well as the aftermath assistance provided to CCISD.

If approved, this grant will allow the Texas Office of the Governor Greg Abbott to reimburse the City of League City for officer regular time and overtime costs associated with the Santa Fe school shooting. The Santa Fe Emergency Federal Law Enforcement Assistance Funding Grant (#3724501) would reimburse the City of League City $17,962.45
