Background:
Approval of this resolution will authorize the award of the construction contract to Matula & Matula Construction, Inc. for the construction of the Smith Lane Lift Station Rehabilitation Project and authorize funds for a construction work change directive budget.

The majority of the City’s lift stations have seen capacity improvements and rehabilitation activity in the past years, through the City’s on-going Capital Improvement Program and O&M funded projects. The Smith Lane Lift Station Rehabilitation Project included the replacement of the existing pumps and piping, structural modifications, electrical improvements and miscellaneous improvements as shown on the plans.
The Smith Lane Lift Station was constructed in the early eighties and serves a large portion of the City’s Eastside service area. The facility has been subjected to various site and individual system component improvements over the years and is now in the need of a comprehensive rehabilitation of all pumps, piping/valves, and electrical controls. This proposed project will ensure reliable performance of this critical General Benefit Facility.

A total of seven (7) sealed bids for the project were received February 12, 2019 (Bid No. 19-CIP-011), but two (2) bidders pulled their bids giving us five (5) bids to evaluate. Matula & Matula Construction Inc. submitted the lowest bid, based on the A+B bidding system, in the amount of $569,550.00 and for a construction time of 220 calendar days. Attached is the City's engineering consultant's recommendation of award, along with the bid tabulation.
