Title

Consider and take action on a resolution approving an interlocal agreement between the City of League City and the Kemah Volunteer Fire Department to provide automatic mutual aid for structure fires (Fire Chief)

Background:

Approval of this resolution will enact an interlocal agreement with the Kemah Volunteer Fire Department for automatic mutual aid for structure fires. Chapter 791 of the Texas Government Code authorizes interlocal agreements between local governmental entities.

In the past mutual aid has been a verbal agreement between cities. Having a formal written agreement in place allows for the processing of reimbursements through FEMA for all expenses over twelve hours of aid in the event of a declared disaster. Written automatic aid agreements, such as this, are part of key factors evaluated by the ISO (Insurance Services Office) to determine what level of fire protection a community has. That rating is provided to fire insurance underwriters for fire insurance rate determination for residential and commercial properties.

This Agreement shall automatically renew for successive one-year terms unless the governing body of either Party gives notice of its desire to terminate the agreement.

CONTRACT ORIGINATION: This action originated with League City and as approved by the City Attorney’s Office
