Consider and take action on a resolution to support the Galveston Bay Plan, 2nd Edition, The Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan for the Galveston Bay Ecosystem (Mayor Hallisey)
Background:
Congress approved the Galveston Bay Estuary Program to be included in the National Estuary Program in 1989 and funded the first comprehensive conservation and management plan for Galveston Bay Estuary Program (GBEP) which was completed in 1995 and set forth goals and actions required to restore and preserve the bay. This plan was approved by both the Governor of Texas and EPA. The Galveston Bay Council (GBC) is the governing body for GBEP and is comprised of a very diverse group of bay stakeholders including state and federal agencies, local governments, municipalities, citizen and environmental groups, industry and commercial fishers.
The Galveston Bay Plan, 2nd Edition, is being released this year to set forth priority goals and actions to meet the future needs of Galveston Bay, and the GBC is asking for stakeholder support of members and municipalities around the bay by each approved the attached resolution.
