Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing the purchase of two (2) Med-Eng EOD 10 Bomb suits complete with Communications for an amount not to exceed $82,152 (Chief of Police)
Background:
Approval of this item will authorize the purchase two (2) complete bomb suits the cost of which will be reimbursed with the use of the funds awarded in the UASI Grant.
On January 22, 2019 Council authorized the submission of the Urban Area Security Initiative Grant to purchase two (2) complete bomb suits for use by the agency’s bomb technicians. The Police Department has two (2) officers assigned to the Texas City Regional Bomb Squad and those officers need this equipment to be operationally safe, as well as effective. This protective ensemble is required per FBI standards in all operations that place a bomb technician in close proximity to a suspected explosive device. The suits offer increased mobility, protection and operational longevity over the outdated and ill-fitting suits currently in the team’s inventory. The acquisition of these suits will increase the safety of the Department’s bomb technicians and will maintain the team FEMA typing as a Type 1 Bomb Squad.
