Consider and take action on an ordinance amending Chapter 34 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of League City, Texas, entitled “Civil Emergencies” to allow the temporary suspension of city ordinances by resolution during a state of disaster or emergency declared by the federal, state or a local government (City Manager)
Staff recommends approval on first and final reading.
Background:
Chapter 34 authorizes the mayor as the state law designated emergency management director to issue rules during the pendency of a League City local state of disaster, but such rules must be “necessary for the protection of life and property.” Approval of this item will provide a method for the issuance of temporary rules that are designed to aid in continuity of city operations, provision of city services, and assisting local businesses, by authorizing the City Council to temporarily enact certain rules or suspend certain city ordinances during a period of disaster or emergency as declared by the federal, state or a local government.
