Consider and take action on Ordinance No. 2020-17, amending the Code of Ordinances of the City of League City by amending Chapter 125, entitled “Zoning”, regarding the Alcoholic Beverage Sales (Off-Premise Consumption) use in the “CM” (Commercial Mixed Use) Zoning District - Second Reading (Executive Director of Development Services)
Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval, 6-1-0 with one absent, on June 1, 2020.
Council approved first reading, 7-1-0, on June 23, 2020.
Background:
June 1, 2020 - The Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing and recommended that Alcoholic Beverage Sales (Off-Premise Consumption) be permitted by-right in the “CM” (Commercial Mixed Use) District by a vote of 6-1-0 with one member absent.
June 23, 2020 - City Council held a public hearing and approved first reading 7-1-0, on June 23, 2020.
Project Summary:
The proposed ordinance changes include editing the table of uses for the “CM” (Commercial Mixed Use) District to allow the use of “Alcoholic Beverage Sales (Off-Premise Consumption)” either by-right or by Special Use Permit.
This proposed amendment is specifically for off-premise consumption uses (liquor stores) and would not change the permitted use table for any on-premise consumption uses (bars).
On June 1, 2020, the Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing and recommended that Alcoholic Beverage Sales (Off-Premise Consumption) be permitted by-right in the “CM” (Commercial Mixed Use) District by a vote of 6-1-0 with one member absent.
On June 23, 2020, City Council held a public hearing and approved the first reading by a vote of 7-1-0.
Staff Recommendation:
Staff recommends that Alcoholic Beverage Sales (Off-Premise Consumption) be permitted by-right in the “CM” (Commercial Mixed Use) District.
