Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing an Interlocal Agreement with the City of Sugarland pertaining to emergency dispatch service for COVID-19 staffing shortages (Chief of Police)
Background:
If approved, this item will establish a reciprocal staffing agreement between the two participating agencies. In the event the City of Sugarland’s emergency dispatch center becomes unable to provide adequate staffing levels due to COVID related illness, they will forward their 911 call and dispatching services to the League City Police Department. The League City Police Department will answer and dispatch police, fire, and EMS services for the City of Sugarland until they are able to return to adequate staffing levels. The agreement is reciprocal and requires the City of Sugarland to provide the same level of service to the City of League City should we also be impacted by COVID significant staffing shortages. As COVID infection rates increase, the potential impact to communication staffing levels is an important consideration. Establishing a MOU with the City of Sugarland provides reciprocal staffing alternatives should either party experience a significant impact of COVID related infections. This MOU ensures both agencies have a contingency plan to provide high levels of emergency dispatch services to their respective communities.
