Consider and take action on a resolution designating the official name of the League Park Basketball Courts, located at 200 N. Park Avenue, as the "Lenox Family Court" (Director of Parks and Cultural Services)
Background:
Approval of this item would name the basketball courts, located at the north end of League Park, to the "Lenox Family Court".
Between the years of 1956-1968, Clear Creek had twelve years of basketball excellence. The success and community pride was credited to four relatives of the Lenox family. Bennie, Curley, Jimmie Dale, and Joe "Scooter" Lenox all played integral roles in seven state appearances in Austin and were all inducted into the CCISD Athletic Hall of Honor. Their home basketball courts were the courts at League Park.
The naming of the courts is community-driven and was unanimously approved by the Parks Board on August 6, 2020, with a 6-0 vote.
The Guidelines for the Naming of Public Facilities was approved by City Council in 2009. One of the objectives of the policy is to encourage public participation in the naming of public facilities in the City of League City. The request encompasses the honoring of a family name with historical and cultural significance in League City.
