Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing a one-year agreement with the State of Texas for participation in the Texas Law Enforcement Support Office (LESO) Program for use of surplus equipment from the federal government and authorizing the City Manager to execute future renewal agreements for this program  (Chief of Police)

 

Background:

Approval of this item will allow  the City access to governmental databases that allow us to search and request surplus equipment from the federal government. In most cases, the requested equipment is transferred to the City at no cost other than related shipping costs.  We have participated in the program for over a decade. The City has benefited from the program by acquiring such items has office furniture, hurricane preparedness items, training aids, hand tools, high water rescue vehicles, explosive ordinance disposal equipment, an armored vehicle and patrol rifles for the police department.
