Consider and take action on an ordinance declaring the unopposed candidacy for election to Council Position 3 of the City of League City (City Secretary)
Staff requests first and final reading.
Background:
If approved, this ordinance will declare the candidacy for the Position 3 in the November 3, 2020 general election as unopposed and the election of Larry Millican to such office.
State law (Texas Election Code Sec. 2.052) requires that the City Secretary certify in writing that a candidate is unopposed for election to an office if, were the election held, only the votes cast for that candidate in the election for that office may be counted. On receipt of such certification, the City Council may by order or ordinance declare each unopposed candidate elected to the office for which election is sought.
Although Mr. Millican's name will appear on the ballot, this order will effect a cancellation of the election for such office and the continuation of the election for contested Council Positions 4 and 5.
