Consider and take action on a resolution directing city staff to add a project to the FY2021 Capital Improvement Plan that would install a right turn lane at the intersection of Calder Road and FM517 (Mayor Pro Tem Dugie and Council Member Bowen)
Background:
Approval of this item will direct staff to add a project to the FY2021 Capital Improvement Plan that would provide a right turn lane (southbound Calder Rd to westbound on FM517) to work with the proposed TxDOT signal at this location.
Design of the right turn lane includes widening the intersection approach at Calder Rd to the east and re-striping to include a southbound right turn lane at the Calder Rd intersection at FM517. Staff will bring forward a design proposal for Council consideration to begin the project by Summer 2021. Design cost are estimated at $60,000, with construction cost estimated at $203,500.
This intersection has also been evaluated by city staff in the past and meets the minimum criteria necessary for the installation of a traffic signal as set forth in the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. TxDOT has the design of a new traffic signal complete and anticipates construction completed by the end of 2021.

FUNDING
