Presentation of a proclamation declaring May 15, 2021, as “World Migratory Bird Day.” (Executive Director of Development Services)
Background:
Since 1993 World Migratory Bird Day (formerly International Migratory Bird Day) has become a primary vehicle for focusing public attention on the nearly 350 species that migrate throughout North America and their wintering grounds in South and Central America, Mexico, the Caribbean and the United States and Canada. League City lies along the Central Flyway and is one of the most important wintering grounds for migratory birds. Additionally, the Clear Creek Nature Center is a member of the Great Texas Birding Trail. This date will coincide with the city sponsored “Big Sit” event where birds will be counted at various locations. The World Migratory Bird Day declaration will support birding opportunities in the City and highlight the importance of bird conservation and protection of wildlife habitat.
