Title
Discuss and take possible action on a grant opportunity from the Texas Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Program (TxVEMP) to purchase and install up to 10 public-facing electric vehicle (EV) charging stations on city-owned facilities. (Executive Director of Development Services)
Background
Approval of this agenda item will authorize staff to apply for a grant from the Texas Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Program (TxVEMP) to purchase and install up to 10 public-facing electric vehicle (EV) charging stations on city-owned facilities.
The TxVEMP Grant provides the lesser of 70%, or up to $2,500, in reimbursements toward the purchase and installation of a single EV charging station. Each applicant may request up to 10 EV charging stations per grant application, and each applicant may submit up to 5 grant applications every 3 months. If/when staff receives approval for a TxVEMP Grant, the City of League City will have up to two years to request reimbursement of city funds for the purchase and installation of up to 10 EV charging stations.
In order to receive reimbursement for the lesser of 70%, or up to $2,500, of the costs to purchase and install each EV charging station, the City of League City must own the land, EV charging station, and associated equipment. Furthermore, each EV charging station must use open-source software, be ADA compliant, and be installed in a public place, workplace, or multi-unit dwelling.
If/when League City's TxVEMP Grant Application is approved, staff will prepare and present a proposal to the City Council before any action is taken to purchase and/or install any EV charging stations.
