Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing the submission of a grant proposal to the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles for the lease of an Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system (Chief of Police)
Background:
Approval of this item will allow the League City Police Department to seek grant funding from the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority. The Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority is offering up to $20,000 toward the lease of an Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system.
ALPR systems are being implemented by law enforcement agencies across the country to combat crime. The Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority has recognized the value of ALPRs and is encouraging law enforcement agencies in Texas to utilize this technology to prevent and solve motor vehicle-related offenses.
The proposed grant requests up to $20,000 from the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority. The MVCPA will reimburse 80% of the actual expenses of leasing an ALPR system up to the maximum grant amount. The City would be responsible for a 20% cash match for the first year of the lease. This resolution is required prior to the MVCPA awarding grant funds.

{x} 42 Flock Safety License Plate Readers are requested in the FY2023 budget for a total cost of $128,100, of which $105,000 is recurring. If approved, this grant would contribute $20,000 towards the cost.
