Background:
Approval of this item will amend Chapter 46 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of League City entitled, “Fire Protection and Prevention” to adopt the 2021 International Fire Code, 2021 Life Safety Code, along with the updates to Chapter 46. The new codes will become effective July 28, 2022. Building codes are enacted to protect the public, health, safety, and welfare of citizens. The International Codes are a family of codes developed and maintained by the International Code Council, Inc. (ICC) which establish minimum standards for conditions and maintenance of buildings, structures, and property to ensure that structures are safe, sanitary, and fit for occupancy and use. The ICC publishes new editions of the these codes every three years. The City has already adopted the 2021 International Building Codes on May 1, 2022 and the adoption of this ordinance will allow for the Fire Codes to be in line with the current adopted building codes.
