Title
Consider and take action on a resolution ratifying the submission of a grant application to the FY2024 Houston Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) for the purchase of replacement radio equipment for public safety/first responders and authorizing City Manager John Baumgartner to accept such grant if awarded (Fire Chief and Director of Information Technology)
Background:
Approval of this item would ratify the submission of an application by the Fire Marshal’s Office in conjunction with Information Technology to the FY2024 Houston Urban Area Security Initiative. This grant application is a continuation of the League City Public Safety Radio Project that originally received funding from the FY2021 and FY2023 UASI grant applications.
This grant will allow for funds to be allocated to replace the remaining 39 fire department APX 6000 Model AN handheld radios with APX6000 XE handheld radios, which are designed for extreme environments (fires, floods, etc.).
This project would also fund 200 mobile (in-vehicle) radios for fire and police to replace the end of life Motorola APX AN series radios. Last year, Motorola sent out a notice stating that on December 31, 2023, the Motorola APX Model AN series radios would be considered End of Life. When a radio reaches its end of life, Motorola will no longer manufacture parts for these radios and once the inventory of parts is depleted these radios will no longer be able to be repaired.
The proposed funding of $1,770,025 for this grant application would be 100% funded through the Houston Urban Area Security Initiative grant program.
