Title
Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing the submission of applications to the 2024 Harris County Precinct 2 Partnership Projects Program (Executive Director of Development Services)
Background:
Approval of this resolution will authorize the City Manager to submit applications for traffic and drainage related projects to the 2024 Harris County Precinct 2 Partnership Projects Program.
Commissioner Garcia and his team are seeking potential Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) to be funded in partnership with other area agencies to serve the citizens of Harris County. This program applies only to the allocation of Harris County resources: funding for study, final design, right-of-way acquisition and construction of capital projects.
In November 2022, voters in Harris County approved three bond propositions totaling $1.2 billion. The bond package provides funding for Public safety facilities, Roads, drainage, transportation-related program, Parks, trails and partnership projects. The bonds will finance eligible capital projects, including land, labor, materials, and professional services. Since 2020, Harris County Precinct 2 has partnered on more than 49 CIP and drainage projects. The precinct committed to more than $83 million dollars for sidewalk, road, drainage, hike and bike trail improvement projects.
Approval of this resolution will allow for Staff to partner with the City of Friendswood on an application for a new traffic signal at Bay Area Blvd. and Grissom Road.
Applications for proposed partnerships with Harris County Precinct 2 are due February 16, 2024. It is anticipated that the selected projects for partnerships will be announced on or near April 5, 2024. If awarded, projects are anticipated to be an 50/50 split with Harris County Precinct 2 providing 50% of the funding and League City and CoF splitting the remaining 50% evenly.
