Consider and take action on an appointment to the Civil Service Commission (City Manager)
Background:
If approved, this item will confirm the reappointment of Mike Sanders to Position 2 on the Civil Service Commission. Mr. Sanders was appointed to the Civil Service Commission on August 24, 2021, with his term expiring on December 31, 2024.
Mr. Sanders is a retired DEA Agent, is currently the Director of Safety & Security for Space Center Houston, and has lived in League City over 10 years. This will be Mike Sanders’ second term which will be from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2027.

Per Section 143.006 of Texas Local Government Code - The commission consists of three members appointed by the municipality's chief executive and confirmed by the governing body of the municipality. Members serve staggered three-year terms with the term of one member expiring each year.
Texas Local Government Code requires a person appointed to the commission to be of good moral character; a United States citizen; a resident of the municipality for more than three years; over 25 years of age; and not have held a public office within the preceding three years.
The duties and responsibilities of commission members include:
1. Adoption and publication of rules.
2. The commission or commission member designated by the commission may investigate and report on all matters relating to the enforcement and effect of Chapter 143 of the Texas Local Government Code.
3. The commission can hear appeals or review from police officers as provided by Chapter 143 of the Texas Local Government Code.
4. The commission sets the physical requirements and examinations for applicants.
5. The commission is ultimately responsible for the entrance examination process as well as the promotional examination process.
