Consider and take action on a resolution declaring seven (7) trucks, three (3) dump trucks, two (2) ambulances, one (1) fire truck, six (6) SUVs, one (1) box van, and one (1) John Deere tractor as surplus property and authorizing City staff to dispose of the surplus property in accordance with City policy (Director of Public Works)
Background:
Approval of this item will authorize the disposal of surplus vehicles and equipment. Per Chapter 2, Article VI, section 2- 301 of the City of League City Code of Ordinances, before any property of the City is sold or offered for sale, the property shall first be declared surplus property. Attached please find Exhibit “A” which identifies the list of automobiles and equipment proposed for auction or to be repurposed within the City.
Although fleet units have been deemed surplus, there are circumstances where some vehicles and/or equipment possess some usefulness for temporary or critical department needs. Surplused vehicles that are referenced as reserve units will be marked and tracked through Fleet software as repurposed units and will never be listed on a future replacement schedule. In the event of a major or catastrophic repair or the end of its temporary use, the unit would then be pulled from service and placed in the next auction.
Unit 240 is a 2018 Chevrolet Ambulance (mileage 116,479) and is proposed to be kept as a reserve unit for EMS. Currently EMS has seven fleet ambulances and one reserve unit. The reserve unit is needed to fill the backup role when ambulances are out-of-service due to accidents or long lead-time mechanical repairs.
The City, via the Purchasing Department, will be using Public Surplus for online auction and surplus management services. Public Surplus specializes in auctions for school districts, governments, and other public entities.
