Title

Consider and take action on a resolution establishing a Legislative Program as a part of the City of League City’s Advocacy Program (City Manager)

Background:

Approval of this resolution will formally establish a Legislative Program for the 2025 Texas Legislative Session as a part of the City of League City’s Advocacy Program intended to increase our regional presence and benefit League City by enabling available resources to be directed our way.

The City’s Legislative Program would be used as a guide for city positions and to protect the City’s municipal interests. Cities and local governments are the governments closest to the people and perform the State’s local work by providing basic and emergency services to citizens, such as solid waste services, water treatment and distribution, wastewater collection and treatment, stormwater management, parks, senior centers, recreation centers, police and fire protection, ambulance and emergency medical services, streets, bike and pedestrian paths, street lighting, animal control, and a host of other services that help to maintain a community and its quality of life.

Therefore, it is imperative that the State Legislature work to ensure that the City retains its ability to govern in a responsive and responsible manner.

The purpose of the Legislative Program is to provide City Council direction to each of the City’s state elected leaders and staff in what needs to be monitored during the session and how to respond to proposed legislation that could impact the City.
