Title

Consider and take action on an ordinance to set a 25 MPH WHEN FLASHING speed limit along FM 518 from 555 feet east of St. Christopher Ave. to 560 feet west of Louisiana Ave, a distance of 0.280 miles (Executive Director of Development Services)

Background:

Approval of this item will set a 25 MPH WHEN FLASHING speed limit on FM 518 from 555 feet east of St. Christopher Ave. to 560 feet west of Louisiana Ave.

TxDOT performed a speed study along FM 518 in this area. TxDOT completed the study in January 2025 (attached as TxDOT Strip Map #5646D) and recommended the above noted changes.

The existing speed limit along FM 518 between FM 2094 and Louisiana Ave is 40MPH, with the exception of the school zone segment. The school zone speed limit is currently 30MPH WHEN FLASHING. TxDOT’s Procedures for Establishing Speed Zones allows TxDOT to lower the speed limit below the 85th percentile method. TxDOT recommends lowering the school zone speed limit to 25 MPH.

This was reviewed by the League City Police Department which offers no objection. The City Ordinance was reviewed and approved by the City Attorney.
