Title
Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing the submission of a grant application to Texas Book Festival for the Texas Book Festival's Texas Library Grant to fund a circulating collection of books for outreach services and authorizing the acceptance of such a grant if awarded (Director of Parks & Cultural Services)
Background:
Approval of this item will authorize the Helen Hall Library to apply for $2,500 in funding to support a start-up collection of books for circulation specifically for outreach services. While the library has long provided card sign-up, story times, and general library information outside the facility, a circulating collection that travels will allow staff to bring the library beyond its walls in new ways. Funds will be used to develop a dedicated collection that includes high-demand and high-interest authors, titles, and subjects, while maintaining these same popular resources for library users in the library’s stacks.
Through this grant program, the Texas Book Festival supports public libraries with funding to enhance print, e-book, and audiobook collections with materials that meet the unique needs of local communities. If funded by this grant, Helen Hall Library will be meeting one of its strategic priorities of extending reach through sustainable off-site services.
Awarded organizations will be notified and funding dispersed beginning in May 2025. No additional matching funds from the City are required. If approved, funds will be credited to 0100-44000 (Miscellaneous Income), with expenses being charged to Library Accounts 4800000-51502 (Children’s Materials) and 4800000-51504 (Adult Materials)
