Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing the renewal of group Life, AD&D, and Long-Term Disability insurance coverage with Mutual of Omaha for the plan year October 1, 2025 through September 30, 2026, in an amount not to exceed $116,911.42 (Director of Human Resources)
Background:
Approval of this item will renew the Group Life, AD&D, and Long-Term Disability insurance coverage for the City of League City employees. The renewal covers one plan year (October 1, 2025 - September 30, 2026) and maintains current rates without increase. The original RFP allowed for two, one-year renewals. This is the first of the two renewals.
The renewal terms are based on current employee demographics and benefit elections, covering approximately 630 eligible employees. The projected annual premium costs for City-paid benefits are as follows:
· Basic Life and AD&D: $49,387.42 annually
· Long-Term Disability (LTD): $67,524.00 annually
Total projected City cost for the 2025-2026 plan year is approximately $116,911.42.
Voluntary Life, Voluntary AD&D, and Voluntary Short-Term Disability (STD) are employee-paid benefits and do not create a financial obligation for the City.
Renewing with Mutual of Omaha ensures continuity of coverage, maintains favorable pricing, and provides value-added services such as Travel Assistance, and Identity Theft Assistance benefits at no additional cost. Renewal minimizes disruption for employees.
CONTRACT ORIGINATION: Agreement has been reviewed by the City Attorney’s Office.

FUNDING
{X} Funding in the amount of $59,388 will be budgeted in Employee Benefit Fund account #40301650-54648 for Basic Life AD&D and $67,524 will be budgeted in Employee Benefit Fund account #40301650-54653 for Long-Term Disability in FY2026, upon Council's approval of the budget.
