Title

Hold a public hearing on an ordinance amending Chapter 125 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of League City by amending subsection 125-3.14.15, entitled "Temporary Structures and Uses", to remove provisions related to special events and to update various provisions (Fire Chief, Director of Parks and Cultural Services, Director of Planning, Emergency Management Coordinator, and Assistant City Manager)

Background:

Approval of this item will revise the language in the Unified Development Code related to Temporary Events.

This item proposes the removal of an existing section of the Code that conflicts with the provisions to be established in Chapter 14, which specifically governs Special Events. By eliminating the duplicative section, the City will ensure that all regulations and procedures related to special events are consolidated into a single, comprehensive chapter. Moving forward, every special event application will be processed through one centralized point of contact and procedure. This streamlined approach is intended to reduce confusion among applicants and staff, while also eliminating unnecessary duplication of effort across departments.

This agenda item serves as the companion Public Hearing to the adoption of Chapter 14 (Special Events). Because the two ordinances are interdependent, the action taken on this item must be consistent with the action taken on the adoption of Chapter 14. In other words, both ordinances must either be approved or rejected together to avoid creating contradictions within the City’s Code of Ordinances.

The Planning and Zoning Commission is scheduled to hold a public hearing and make a recommendation on the item on September 22, 2025.
