Consider and take action on a resolution designating The Galveston Daily News as the official newspaper for the City of League City for FY26 (Director of Finance)
Background:
Approval of this resolution will authorize a one-year agreement with The Galveston Daily News as the official newspaper for the City of League City. Under Texas Local Government Code Section 52.004 and the City of League City Charter (Article X, Section 13), the city must annually designate a local newspaper as the official newspaper for the City of League City.
The Purchasing department requested quotes from local area newspapers including The Galveston Daily News, The Post, the Bay Area Observer, and the Houston Chronicle (Hearst Media). Three responses were received from The Galveston Daily News, the Bay Area Observer, and the Houston Chronicle. The Bay Area Observer has paused the printing of public notices until June of next year. After performing a cost analysis to compare the pricing between The Galveston Daily News and Houston Chronicle, it was determined that The Galveston Daily News is the lowest cost option. The staff recommends The Galveston Daily News as the official newspaper for the city. Pricing is $12 per column inch, which has been the same rate for the past three fiscal years, and publication days include Tuesday through Friday with one weekend edition. Expected expenditure for this contract is $37,800.
