Background:
Approval of this item authorizes the purchase of three (3) unmarked 2026 Ford Explorer vehicles for use by the police department’s Bureau Commanders (Police Captains).
In the FY2026 budget, Council approved the purchase of three (3) vehicles for use by the police department’s Bureau Commanders (Police Captains). These vehicles were budgeted at an amount of $165,000 and funded through the expenditure of Asset Forfeiture (Seizure) funds. The police department was able to secure Good Buy (25 8F000) contract pricing for three (3) 2026 Ford Explorers in the amount of $127,640.00. This cost represents the purchase price of the vehicles alone, and all upfitting of emergency equipment will be handled in a separate purchase once vehicles are received. The additional cost of the emergency equipment will not exceed the original budgeted amount of the vehicles and will be funded from the same Asset Forfeiture (Seizure) funding source.
The requested Ford Explorers are similar to the existing unmarked police fleet and provide for adequate storage of police equipment.
