Consider and take action on a resolution to ratify the contract with Brooks Concrete, Inc. for the urgent repair of slope paving at the Bay Area Blvd Bridge located at Magnolia Creek in an amount not to exceed $70,992 (Director of Public Works)
Background:
Approval of this item will ratify the contract with Brooks Concrete, Inc. for the urgent repair of slope paving at the Bay Area Blvd Bridge located at Magnolia Creek in an amount not to exceed $70,992.
This slope paving repair was initially identified during a TxDOT off-system bridge inspection conducted on December 7, 2021. Off-system bridge inspections cover local bridges that are not part of the TxDOT roadway network. These inspections provide municipalities, counties, and other local entities with information needed to identify and prioritize bridge repairs that help ensure local roadway safety.
At the time of inspection, the slope paving at Magnolia Creek Bridge was classified as a Level 3 action item, recommended for completion within 24 months. 1. Summer Place, which is included in an ongoing bond project, and
2. Magnolia Creek Bridge slope paving, which is the subject of this agenda item and was completed on November 21, 2025.
The repair was escalated to urgent status after TxDOT conducted a follow-up scour evaluation on October 24, 2024. Subsequent discussions with TxDOT staff informed the City that the repair would be classified as a Level 2 Repair, with a recommendation to complete the work within six months.
