The Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval, 5-0-0, on December 1, 2025.
City Council approved the first reading, 8-0-0, on December 16, 2025.
Background:
Approval of this item will amend the Unified Development Code to allow an increased height for signs adjacent to overpasses.
Project Timeline:
November 14, 2025 - Notice of the public hearings was published in the paper.
December 1, 2025 - The Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing and recommended approval of the item.
December 16, 2025 - City Council held a public hearing and approved the item on first reading.
January 13, 2026 - Subject to approval on first reading, City Council is scheduled to hear the item on second reading.
Project Summary:
The proposed ordinance amendments would allow for the height of signs adjacent to overpasses to be increased to 10 feet above the raised driving surface of the roadway. The ordinance also makes a minor housekeeping update to correct a statutory reference in Section 8.12 to reflect the Legislature’s 2019 recodification of former Local Government Code §216.903 into Texas Election Code §259.003.
On December 1, 2025, the Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval of the proposed text amendment, 5-0-0.
On December 16, 2025, the City Council approved the proposed text amendment, 8-0-0.
