Title

Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing the Police Department to submit a grant application to the Office of the Texas Governor to seek funding through the Body-Worn Camera Grant Program to offset the costs associated with the Police Department’s Body-Worn Camera Program; and authorizing the acceptance of such grant if awarded (Chief of Police)

Background:

Approval of this item will allow the Police Department to submit a grant proposal to the Office of the Governor to equip police officers with body-worn cameras. The police department hopes to offset some of the budgeted costs incurred through its current body-worn camera contract with Axon Enterprises, Inc., for fiscal year 2027 if awarded the grant funds.

The League City Police Department requests approval to submit a grant package estimated at approximately $57,886.35. This funding would pay 40% of the agency’s current body-worn camera contract costs for FY2027. The awarded funds could be used to pay for the unlimited cloud storage for captured body-worn camera videos and associated licenses required to utilize and manage the evidence collected through these cameras.

This grant requires a 25% match. The match requirement would not increase League City's expenses since the Council approved a five-year contract with Axon Enterprises, Inc. in 2023.
