Title
Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing a professional services agreement with Sander Engineering Corporation for the design and construction phase services related to the East Main Lift Station Conversion project (WW1901E) in an amount not to exceed $202,050 (Executive Director of Capital Projects)

Background:
Approval of this resolution authorizes a professional services agreement with Sander Engineering Corporation for the East Main Lift Station Conversion project (WW1901E).

Since the 1990’s, our lift stations have experienced dry pit floodings, including a flood at the East Main Station. Another major dry pit flooding occurred during Tropical Allison in 2001. Six or seven of the lift stations were flooded during this event. Additionally, health and safety of the workers who maintain the pumps and controls became a major concern. The TCEQ regulations on confined-space requirements, history of station flooding, and worker safety caused the City to develop and implement a conversion to a submersible-pump station program. The conversion provides additional wetwell capacity by combining the two pits, keeps the City workers above ground, while allowing pumps to be pulled out for inspections and repairs with much more reliability and the least health and safety risks.

This project will convert the existing dry/wet pit configuration at the East Main lift station to a standard submersible-pump lift station configuration to provide more reliable service during tropical weather events. Sander Engineering will provide design and construction phase services, including new pumps and piping, new controls and electrical system, structural modifications, new hatches and safety grates, new discharge piping valves, and coating of the existing dry pit/wet pit.

The proposed agreement with Sander Engineering is for an amount not to exceed $202,050.
