Title

Consider and take action on a resolution authorizing a construction contract with Millis Development and Construction, LLC for the construction of the Dr. Ned and Fay Dudney Nature Center boardwalk (PK1801G) in the amount of $85,125, and authorizing a work change directive budget of $8,513, for a total construction budget of $93,638 (Director of Parks and Cultural Services)

Background:

Approval of this resolution will authorize the award of a construction contract to Millis Development and Construction, LLC for the construction of the Dr. Ned and Fay Dudney Nature Center boardwalk which includes replacement of wooden decking to a composite material which will increase the boardwalk's life expectancy.

The boardwalk is 190 ft long X 8 ft wide and is part of a 1.30 mile trail within the 148 acre nature center constructed in 2008.   Due to excessive weathering and general wear and tear of the lumber, this project was included in the Parks Facility Renewal (PK1801) CIP project in FY2021.  The boardwalk was originally recommended by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in the form of an elevated pathway over existing wetland areas.

Purchasing sent out an Invitation to Bid packet and received two bids for the project in which Millis was the lowest bidder. The project is scheduled to take 3 weeks to complete and will have limited impact on visitors to the park. The Nature Center will remain open during the project with the work area closed off and a detour so that park patrons can still utilize the remaining concrete trail.
